Clifford Sykes, Jr.

Clifford “Punkin” Rubin Sykes Jr., 70, of Efland, NC passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at his home. Born on September 11, 1947, he was the son of the late Clifford Rubin Sykes Sr. and Martha Jane Sykes. He had been employed with Newberg Automotive, Couch Car Wash, and White’s Furniture. He was a member of Efland United Methodist Church as well as the Efland Ruritan Club. Dedicated to his beloved mother, he enjoyed western movies and educational television. His sense of humor, gentle kindness, strength and enduring presence will be missed by all. Survivors include his sister, Mary Jane “Janie” Glasgow (Marvis); uncle, Jesse Crabtree (Alice); nieces, Edna Scarlett (Robert), Tammy Pennington (Brian), Tonya Spruill (Dave); nephews, Eddie Glasgow (Erica), Marshal Glasgow (Katie) and Marty Glasgow; 15 great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great nephew, Donald Gray Pennington. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday August 22, 2018 at Efland United Methodist Church with Pastor Lori Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home. Pallbearers: Buster Graham, Robert Miller, David Kimrey, Benny Cecil, Timmy Crabtree, Tony Crabtree, Ronnie Cecil and Archie Newberg.
