Lucy Nicholson Smith Bardwell, 90years, 10 months and 7days ( not 91 years old), of Burlington, NC, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at her residence at Oak Creek Retirement Center of Burlington. A Native of Burlington, NC, she was the daughter of the late Marion P. And Hazel L. Nicholson of Mebane, NC. She was a devoted Christian who was preceded in death by her husband Rev. L. W. Smith and second husband Francis “Tip” Bardwell. She was preceded in death by her son David. W. Smith and grandson Nicholas D. Smith, her brothers, Marion P., Jr, John Frank, sisters Delores N. Young, Maxine N. Cook. She is survived by one sister, Sarah Blanchard of Burlington, NC.
Lucy was survived by 4 loving children, L. Mark & Tonia Smith of Pinehurst, NC: Joan and Bill Currin of Oxford, NC.; Dr. J. Phillip and Pamela Smith of Shady Spring, WV; Lucindy and Mike Pittard of Graham, NC and a daughter in-law Polly Smith. She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, Shannon Lassiter (Bruce); Kristin Coulston (James) , Raegan Cunningham (Stu); Julie Harris (Donnie); Will Currin (Angela); Luther Currin (Morgan); Mattie Anne Clark (Devin); Stacy Rumble (Wes); Elizabeth Smith and boyfriend Tarik; Clint Storey and (Ashlee); Jessica Palmer and (John). 20 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
She loved her many nieces and nephews and tons of friends she made through her 25 years as secretary of First Baptist Church of Mebane, NC. She loved working for the Lord God and touched many lives through her work with Women’s mission groups in the church.
She was a member of East Lawn Baptist Church in Burlington, NC. Her love for God inspired her family, friends everywhere.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at the McClure Funeral Service, 1308 S. Third street, Mebane, NC. Visitation will be held from 11am-12:45 pm with Celebration beginning at 1PM officiated by Rev. Steve Joyner and Rev. Dr. Phillip Smith. Internment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane, NC.
She had been in the care of Hospice of Alamance/ Caswell County. We want to personally thank Joanna Mann for helping us care of our mom. You are a true blessing!
