Our History

McClure Funeral Service in North Carolina

In 1907 if you happened to pass through courthouse square in Graham, NC. and look across from where Graham Cinema now stands, you would have found the original home of McClure Funeral Service.  Back then it was a downtown storefront that sold fine furniture on one side and took care of the funerary needs of a community on the other.  For nearly a century the name McClure has stood for a genuine desire to meet what each and every member of the staff look upon as a calling.  They have embraced the community here in Alamance County by not only burying our dearly departed but by reaching out to those in grief that are left behind. It was 1907 when the first location opened it's doors. Back in those days it was Green & McClure Furniture and Funeral Service. Since that time McClure has passed through many hands and seen many changes.

In 1949, Mr. Griffin McClure and Mr. Green decided to separate the two businesses. Griffin McClure settled with Mr. Green and the funeral service moved to 605 E. Webb Ave. in Burlington at the old John fix home place. At that time new partners went to work with a labor of love to preserve the standards and quality of the companies founder. Griffin McClure, H.G. Macelroy. (Bugs) B. L. Laughon, and Carl Crabtree now formed the new incorporated partners. They expanded into Mebane, N.C. and moved the main office to where it still resides at 1030 South Main Street in Graham.

Some time later, long after Griffin McClure had passed away of a sudden heart attack the funeral service passed through a buy out to Paul Love, Bill Strickland, and W.M. Rich. This was slowly bought out by Paul untill he held sole proprietorship and then unfortunately passed away in 2004.

McClure Funeral Home

His heirs sold the home to the gentlemen who now own it. Steve Smith, Ken Stainback, and Randy Vanderburg.  Although the funeral service has passed through many hands through the years it’s integrity has never been lost and it’s concern for the community has grown. This new partnership hopes to help as many as come to them in time of need. They consider this a personal calling as everyone strives to reassure those who need their help. Throughout nearly 100 years of North Carolina history,  McClure Funeral Service has become a name you can trust to take the right approach of respect to aid you when you need them.  We hope to extend the tradition of friends helping friends and neighbors helping neighbors into the next century.
