Gwendolyn Womble Atwater
She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and volunteered at the church for many different occasions. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all and was always involved in activities with her children and grandchildren. She was known for always sending friends and family cards so that a smile may come across their faces. She was also known for her cooking with her grandchildren; whether it was for church, family, or just a friend, it was greatly enjoyed.
She was a member of the White Cross Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for a number of years. She enjoyed volunteering at numerous nursing homes around the holidays putting on Christmas parties for residents.
Mrs. Atwater is survived by her husband of 51 years, Warren Atwater of the home; daughters, Tammy Allred and husband, Darrin, of Mebane, and Angie Dameron and husband, Tim, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Laci McCauley, Clint McCauley, Fletcher Dameron and Crawford Dameron; brothers, Tommy Womble and wife, Barbara, and Clayton Womble and wife, Mona; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Naomi Thomas Womble.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 11, 2012, at the Antioch Baptist Church in Chapel Hill with the Rev. David Atwater presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service on Tuesday in the Church Fellowship Hall, and other times at the residence of the family.
