Mrs. Irene Taylor Martin – 89 years old, of Burlington passed away unexpectedly as the result of a tragic car wreck on Tuesday, April 30th 2019 at 3:22pm.
Born in Dickenson County, Virginia on November 12th 1929, she was the daughter of Carl and Virgie Anderson Taylor, both deceased. She was married for 52 years to the late Winfrey Thomas Martin Jr. She attended Burlington Business College and Elon College. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Graham for 60 plus years and was a member of the T.J. Whitehead Sunday School Class and a Life Member of United Methodist Women. A member of the Women’s Division of Alamance County Ladies Chamber of Commerce, a past member of American Business Women’s Association and a Burlington Shrinette.
She had an unwavering faith and was a courageous woman with a passion for life and family. Our family has been blessed by her loving spirit of faith and love.
The life she lived as the matriarch of our family will live within our hearts forever.
Her survivors include her two Grandsons, Winfrey Thomas Martin III, wife Angela and Christian Debnam Martin, wife Heather. Three Great-Grandchildren, William Taylor Martin, Melina Faith Martin and Franklin Oliver Martin.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers and three sisters. Brothers: Amos Taylor, R.C. Taylor, Kilby Taylor and Carl Taylor. Sisters Aileen Baulding, Inez Edwards and Genola Youngblood.
A visitation will be held at McClure Funeral Home in Graham on Friday, May 10th from 5pm until 7pm. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Graham on Saturday, May 11th at 10am. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance and First United Methodist Church of Graham, NC.
