Alice Delores Barker, 83, passed away at home Wednesday, February 22, 2017 following declining health. She was born in Millheim, PA. January 18,1934 to the late Harry and Ethel Evans. She graduated from a business school and was a secretary until she met the love of her life, the late Thomas Barker MGySgt USMC. They married June 13,1959 and moved to Cherry Point, NC. They had 3 children and after Tom retired from the Marine Corp. they settled in Mebane NC. Alice and Tom joined Hebron Methodist Church. Alice was very active in the church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was a member of the friendship circle and headed the fall festival decorating committee for several years. One of her greatest joys was going on a trip to the Holy Land that Carson put together. She often said that she had always believed in God but she actually met him there and it changed her life forever. She enjoyed gardening, crafts and spending time with her family. The constant compliment she got through her life was her smile. It would light up a room. She was a very kind and caring person, who would gladly give or do for anyone. Her faith was strong and it showed in everything she said and did. As she was getting older, her eyesight was fading and her hands where failing but there was two things that she would do daily and that was read her daily devotional and crochet. The past 7 years she has lived with her daughter and family in Pine Knoll Shores, NC. She loved the ocean and collecting shells. She is survived by her children Lisa Packer and husband Lee , Teresa Wilson and husband Jeff and son Todd Barker. Her Grandchildren Justin Packer and wife Jonna , Kristen Salinas and husband Diego, Jessica Avera and husband Ryan, Holly Packer, Megan Wilson, Clayton Wilson, Cameron and Courtney Packer. Great Grandchildren Sofia Avera, Levi Packer, Adeline Salinas along with numerous nieces and nephews.She is also survived by three brothers Leo Evans, Bob Evans, Steven Evans and one sister Molly Way. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Barker and two brothers Dick Evans, Jerry Evans. The service will be held at Hebron Methodist Church at 2325 Mebane Oaks Rd, Mebane, NC on Monday, February 27th. Viewing will begin at 1:00 pm and service to follow at 2:00 pm. Immediately after all are invited to a reception to celebrate Alice's life in the hut. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hebron Church in memory of Alice.
