Anita Searcy Slaughter, 63, went home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2025.
Born and raised in Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond J and Doris Pore Searcy. Anita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy was the love she shared with her family. She worked as a receptionist at Ray Street Academy with the Alamance-Burlington School System, where her welcoming smile and kind spirit touched everyone who walked through the door.
Anita lived a life filled with love, family, and adventure. She and her husband, Todd, enjoyed traveling together to beautiful coastal destinations along the southeastern U.S., the Caribbean Islands, and Costa Rica. But her happiest place of all was a beach, with her toes in the sand, the sun on her face, and her family by her side.
Christmas held a very special place in Anita’s heart. She poured her creativity and joy into decorating every detail of the holiday season, filling her home with warmth, sparkle, and the true spirit of Christmas. For her, it wasn’t just about decorations—it was about the magic of togetherness, traditions, and creating cherished memories for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Todd Slaughter; daughters, Jessica Elkins (Brandon) and Haley Workman (Stephen); brother, Rodney Calcutt (Melanie); sister, Chandra Durham (Chris); and her beloved grandchildren, Victoria Elkins, Jaxon Elkins, Channing Workman, and River Workman. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends whose lives were brightened by her love and laughter.
A service to celebrate Anita’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at donations@kidney.org in memory of her late father, Raymond J Searcy.
