Ann Carolyn (Sturgis) Bruner

Ann Sturgis Bruner, 80, of Graham passed away at Hospice Home after a short illness on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
A native of Pungoteague, VA, she was the daughter of the late Stewart E. Sturgis and the late Marian Fletcher Sturgis. Ann was employed by Roses at Cum-Park Plaza for 55 years as a customer service representative. She was known and loved by many in the community always greeting customers and friends with a smiling face. Ann is survived by one son, Jimmy Bruner and his wife Michelle, daughters Elizabeth and Sarah of Cary NC.  Daughter Melissa Rimmer and her husband Brad of Burlington, NC.  Daughter Traci Cook and her husband Jason, sons Owen and Talan of Graham, NC. Additionally Ann is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, one sister Marilyn Loftis and her husband, Gary, of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Gordon Sturgis and his wife, Faye, of Exmore VA. Ann is preceeded in death by three brothers Glen Sturgis, Bobby Sturgis, and Jack Sturgis. ​​
Ann loved flowers, reading, and spending time with family. Ann lived with her daughter Traci and enjoyed being able to help raise her grandsons. She loved watching the boys play in the backyard with friends when they were younger.  Ann also enjoyed spending time at Atlantic Beach with her daughter Melissa. She loved to sit on the deck at the beach and count the ducks in the water. Ann was forever linked to the Eastern Shore of Virginia where she was born and raised on a farm on the Chesapeake Bay. Ann would make many trips back to her birthplace with her son Jimmy visiting her brothers, sisters, and just reconnecting to the life on the farm and Eastern Shore. ​​​​
A memorial service for Ann will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare Hospice at 918 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215, American Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
