Dr. Anna Morrow Bass passed from this life on Sunday June 2, 2024 at the Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC. She was surrounded with family and friends. Anna was born on May 25, 1933 and celebrated her 91st birthday on May 25, 2024. She was the fifth child of Jesse L. Morrow Sr. and Cathryn Whitmore Morrow. She had eight siblings who preceded her in death, Namely; Dorothy, Ella, Herbert, Grant, Nellie, Eugene, Lucille, and JL. Anna was so preceded in death by her husband, Joel Bass.
Joel and Anna had two children, Karl Orlando Bass and Karen F. Bass and a granddaughter Tabatha Lucille Bass, who survive. Others who remain to continue Anna’s legacy of love are her nieces, Shirley Watkins, Gloria Alexander, Jerina Plourd’a; her nephews, Angelo, Andre, Derrick, Hal, Patrick, Eric, Rodney Morrow, and Norris Bass; sisters in law, Alice, Laura, and Dorothy Morrow, and many other cousins, extended family, and friends.
Anna received her early education in the Alamance County School System and graduated from Graham High School. She furthered her education by receiving a BA Degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, graduating in 1955. Later she received a MA Degree from North Carolina Central University and her Doctorate was received from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Anna’s first teaching job was at Melville Elementary School. After a move to Maine and Massachusetts, she returned to Graham Elementary where she later became a principal. As time passed, she was selected as an Administrator of the Federal Programs, ESEA Title One which included chapter 1, The Migrant Program as well as other programs and (NCAE) North Carolina Association of Educators.
Anna was also Adjunct Professor at Elon University as well as being involved in numerous regional and national organizations. She served on the Board of Education for the Alamance County School System, Board at Twin Lakes, as well as the Alamance County Community College Board.
At a very early age, Anna joined Bethsada Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many facets of the Church. She was active until her health no longer permitted her to do so.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday June 9, 2024 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane with the Chaplain David Morrow officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. Burial will follow alongside her husband Joel, at Bethsada Baptist Church Cemetery in Mebane. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethsada Baptist Church at 4338 Mebane Oaks Rd. Mebane, NC 27302.
