Arthur Gordon Loy

Arthur ‘Gordon’ Loy passed away on November 13 at the age of 89. Gordon was born in Alamance County on March 20, 1936. He was predeceased by his parents, William Loftin Loy and Omie Hagood Loy, sisters Rachel Rumbley and Debbie Walter, and great-nephew Shawn Fralick.

He is survived by his sister, Brenda L Wilson, niece Lisa Henderson, and nephews Michael Williamson and Jeff Hudgins. He was uncle to many grand & great-grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind several cousins.

Gordon spent his career in textiles and farming and taught himself to play guitar as a young teen. For many decades, he wrote songs, played guitar, performed with bands, and sang on radio shows. He was interviewed by local and out-of-state newspapers.

With each niece and nephew added to the family, he showed them chords on the guitar and encouraged them to sing and play. Gordon once stated that he had written over 5000 songs. One of those was ‘Tribute to Hank Williams,’ which was recorded in a Nashville studio. Other artists recorded numerous songs that he penned.

Gordon was widely known for his love of gardening and passed on heirloom seeds, German Johnson tomatoes, and Ledman watermelons for all to enjoy. He shared his love of fishing with young family members, one of his favorite pastimes. He will be dearly missed and always remembered.

A family celebration of life will take place in the Spring.
