Audrey Joyce Daniels Tarrant, better known as JoJo thanks to her granddaughter Dani, went to be with God peacefully, leaving behind her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and John Powell, her granddaughter Dani Doss, her adopted granddaughter Autumn Fogleman-Sipe, her baby brother Chuck Daniels, her sister Vickie Daniels, and her many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Helen Daniels; her younger siblings, Mike, Jean, Janet, and Sharon; and her sister-in-law, Rose. We like to imagine that wherever they are, they’re all together around Nanny’s old oak wood dining room table drinking coffee, laughing, and watching General Hospital reruns so they can discuss the Sonny, Jason, and Carly drama as if these were actual people they personally knew and absolutely needed to spill the tea about.
Look, we don’t know how time works in Heaven. Don’t ask us. We don’t make the rules. We just know that there’s coffee, there’s laughter, there’s her mom’s banana pudding, sweet tea, and fried chicken, and there’s General Hospital reruns in the eternal programming schedule.
Joyce had a way of making room for people. She took care of her family, fed whoever needed it, and paid the bills that kept the lights on for her family members without making them feel guilty about their situation. She raised nieces and nephews when her siblings couldn’t, carried babies, brought children along when she probably shouldn’t have, made friends with people who were left out, and generally made herself useful whether anyone had asked her to or not. She gave of herself, her time, and her money without keeping score, because that was simply who she was.
In lieu of flowers that wilt or gifts that will collect dust, please consider donating to a local church or other organization that helps people in need, a cause that was always close to Joyce’s heart.
Jojo, enjoy the reunion with your siblings and parents. We know you are having a grand ol time right now. We love you. We’ll miss you. And we’ll carry you with us in every story, every laugh, every cup of coffee, and every person who needs somebody in their corner.
Joyce left this world loved by her family, remembered by many. She will be felt in the Carolina summer breeze, in a cup of coffee one morning, or in some little moment that makes us stop and think of her.
