Bernard Eubanks Lloyd

Bernard Eubanks Lloyd, 94, passed away on December 23, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Anita Jane Pickett Lloyd, his parents William Carey Lloyd and Maude Elizabeth Eubanks Lloyd, his brothers William Homer Lloyd, Donald Webb Lloyd, sister Betty Marie Lloyd and Cousin Weldon Rigsbee.

Bernard was a lifelong resident of the White Cross Community. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, a choir member, Sunday school superintendent for many years, and a Board member of the White Cross Volunteer Fire Department.

He served in the US Army and was a Korean War Veteran. After completing his military service, he returned home and got a job at Duke Hospital. He worked in the Duke Histological Pathology Department for 35 years until his retirement. One of his proud accomplishments was the work he did on a project with pocket mice as a Duke team member for NASA’s 1972 Apollo7 Space Mission.

Bernard loved baseball and pitched for the White Cross teams. He tried out for and was selected to play for the Durham Bulls; unfortunately, he was drafted into the army before he could join the team. For many years he coached the Antioch youth baseball teams and the White Cross adult softball teams.

He taught his self to play the guitar. Along with his father on fiddle, sister on piano, and some other local players, they played square dances throughout the community for many years.

He is survived by his sons Jerry (Angie), Ron (Michelle), daughter Brenda (Randy), six grandsons, one granddaughter, five great-grandsons, and many nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be Thursday , December 29, 2022 at 1:00  PM at  Antioch Baptist Church in White Cross. Officiating will be. Rev. David Atwater and Rev. Ernie Keck. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concerns and kindness that has been shown to them during this time of loss.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Antioch Baptist Church or your preferred charity.
