Beulah Marie (Scarlett) Wood

The battle is over…..The Victory Won!  Beulah Wood has reached her final home.

Beulah Marie Scarlett was born in Warrenton, N.C. September 17, 1929 to the late Robert and Myrtle Wrenn Scarlett.  Her family moved to Hillsborough, N.C. when she was three years old and that was her home for the remainder of her life.  Prior to marrying the late Jack (Paul) Wood at the age of 19 she had a hand in the rearing of her younger brothers and sisters.  Beulah was the second of eight children.  In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister Esther (Johnny) Boyd, brothers Henry (Cleaon) Scarlett and Ronald (Mary) Scarlett and twin great granddaughters Krystlynne and Kloey Hunt.  She is survived by sisters Myrna (Joe, deceased) Grasty, Linda (Lynwood) Gates, Joyce (George) Smith and brother Roger (Ann) Scarlett.

After helping to raise her younger siblings Beulah and Paul had five children, all surviving, Jack (Marlene) Wood, Terry (Melvin) Dodson, Robby (Polly) Wood, Sandy (Brian) Phelps and Mike (Sherby) Wood.  Of the many things she accomplished being our mother was what she was most proud of.

Beulah’s life was a reflection of true J O Y … Jesus first, Others then Yourself last.

As we grieve our loss we also celebrate her life.  Left with those memories are 5 children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren (8 spouses), 21 great grandchildren (1 spouse) and 4 great great grandchildren.  A legacy of 55.

At the age of 72 Beulah became a breast cancer survivor.  She battled cancer with grace and dignity and she won the battle.  In her mid 80’s she was diagnosed with dementia.  She knew she had the disease and she fought hard to hold onto her memories.  She is the strongest woman we have ever know and we are proud to call her mama, sister, sis, grandma, nana, aunt, Bula and friend.  Anyone having the privilege of knowing Beulah knew unconditional love.

The family is being assisted by McClure Funeral Service in Mebane, N.C.  They will receive visitors Sunday September 9th from 1pm to 3pm at McClure Funeral Home and at other times at her home at 111 Hayes Street, Hillsborough, NC.  The celebration of her life will be at 3 pm in the McClure Funeral Chapel, by Rev Odell Link.  Burial will be in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.  Pallbearers are her great grandsons Kodi Snipes, Matt Dodson, Jared Wood, Jonah Wood, Jackson Wood, Jake Wood, Jace Dodson,Tate Jones, Landon Riley and Luke Riley, and Honorary Isaac Sykes, Lincoln Riley and Judson Wood (because they are to small to be big pallbearers).

Flowers are acceptable or contributions can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society in Beulah’s memory.
