Beverly Muriel Burks Bishop

March 23, 1938 — September 14, 2016

Beverly resided last at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields in Mebane, NC at 78 years old, and lived in Alamance county for 62 years. She met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face on September 14, 2016. She was taken to the Alamance Hospice Home just a few hours before taking her final breath this side of Heaven. Beverly was born in Huntsdale, Missouri in 1938. She outlived her father, James Henry Burks, her mother, Thelma Illene Anderson Burks, and her sister, Virginia (Ginny) Nickell. Beverly was lovingly known as “Momma,” by most who knew her. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren referred to her as "Maw maw." She was involved in the Girl and Boy Scouts as a Troop Leader. Momma faithfully taught Sunday school, and sang in the church choir for many years. She also loved serving at church in the nursery. She enjoyed swimming and water aerobics, and had a great group of friends that truly cared for her. She worked at May Apparel in Mebane for 30 years, and at Woolworths during the Jurassic Period. Proverbs 31:25- 28 NLT says “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from lazyness. Her children stand and bless her.” Verses 30- 31 NLT say, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.” Beverly, Momma, Maw maw, was all of those things. She may not have had earthly wealth, but she stored up her treasures and inheritance in Heaven. That inheritance will last for eternity, and never lose its value. It was truly an honor for us to call Beverly a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and sister in Christ. We are all at peace knowing that she is in Heaven rejoicing with The Lord. She wasn't always able to give us the world, but she meant the world us. Beverly is succeeded in life by her sisters Sandra (Paul) Bundy of Burlington, NC, Betty Brenton of Columbia, MO and her brother Orin (Dorothy) Burks of Eureka, Illinois. Her step mother Ruth Samuel resides in Columbia, MO. Momma’s children are Debbie Edwards of Burlington, Rodney (Sharon) Bishop of Elon, and Tonya (George) Hahle of Mebane, NC. Maw maw was blessed with many grandchildren including Ben (Meredith) Edwards, Mitch Bishop, Samantha (James) Loveday, Christina Johnson, Catherine Thomas, Sarah Burks Hahle, Georgia Hahle, and Claudia Hahle. Maw maw was also filled with such joy to be blessed with great grandchildren, Noah, Norah, Zane, and Henry, along with many nieces and nephews. The service to celebrate Beverly's life will be conducted from the graveside at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane at 10::30 am Saturday, September 17, 2016. Friends may visit with the family following the service. The Lord gave, and The Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21 KJV Arrangements are under the care of McClure Funeral and Cremation Service of Mebane.
