Carmen Melissa Nimmo

Mar 17, 1953 — Oct 2, 2026

Mebane

Carmen Melissa Franklin Nimmo, formerly of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home in Mebane, NC, after a multi-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her immediate family, as was her wish.

Born on March 17, 1953, Melissa entered the world alongside her identical twin sister, Caren Melinda Franklin Smith. Their extraordinary bond remained a central and cherished part of Melissa's life from the very beginning.

Melissa grew up in Oklahoma, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Duane Nimmo. They were blessed with more than 50 years of marriage, built on devotion, partnership, and deep family roots. The early years of their marriage were spent pursuing college and beginning their careers, living and working in communities across the Midwest. Eventually, Melissa and Ron made their home in Clinton, North Carolina, where they lived for 31 years before moving to Mebane. Together, they created a beautiful life centered on their family, and nothing brought Melissa greater joy than her children and grandchildren. Her delight in her grandchildren was especially contagious; she loved all of them fiercely—those born into the family, those welcomed through adoption, and those brought into their hearts through foster care.

Melissa faced her illness with incredible resilience, grace, and strength, supported by the love of those who meant the most to her. Her warmth, quick sense of humor, and unconditional love leave an indelible mark on all who had the blessing of knowing her. The family's circle was also deeply extended through the gift of a decades-long friendship with Bonnie Ward, whose presence was a constant source of comfort, grace, and support, especially during the final season of Melissa's life. The family is eternally grateful for the kind, compassionate, and attentive care provided by AuthoraCare Collective, with special thanks to Brittany and Sarah Kate for their devoted care of Melissa and the family as a whole.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald Duane Nimmo; her twin sister, Caren Melinda Franklin Smith of Mississippi; her younger sister, Elizabeth Ann Franklin of Florida; her brother-in-law, Richard Nimmo, and his wife, Donna, of Duncan, Oklahoma; her sister-in-law, Cathy Nimmo Hooper, and her husband, Steve, of Elk City, Oklahoma—both in-laws in name only, as decades of shared life made them true brothers and sisters in heart; her daughter, Emily Denise Nimmo Myers, and her husband, David; her son, Ryan Duane Nimmo, and his wife, Carly; her six cherished grandchildren: Evan, Arielle, Eyanna, Ryder, and Jaxton, children of Emily and David, and Samuel, son of Ryan and Carly; her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and countless friends from all stages of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juaweese and James Klinton Franklin; her parents-in-law, Ronald Earl Nimmo and Patsy Jean Walker Nimmo; and her brother-in-law, Jimmy Smith.

A private family service honoring Melissa's life will be held in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Melissa's honor to AuthoraCare Collective Hospice of North Carolina online at authoracare.org or by mail to:
