Carolyn Jean (Dodson) Hicks

Carolyn Dodson Hicks, 87, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2022.  She peacefully passed away at Duke University Medical Center after a brief illness.

Carolyn retired from Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies after 43 years of service.  She enjoyed life – especially golf, cards, games of chance, and CAROLINA. Her life was truly enriched by her many circles of friends.

Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Sheila Storey; son-in-law, John Storey; grandson, Jason Storey; and his partner, Sheryl Kirkey-Dean and her children, Emma Rose Dean and Braden Dean; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie Brown Dodson and Ella Caroline Jones Dodson; husband, Archie Averette Hicks; fiancé, William “Billy” Hunter; three sisters, Vera Crawford, Marie Thompson, Katie Ivey; and three brothers, William “Bill” Dodson, Tyson “Whitey” Dodson, and Bernis “Bun”Dodson.

A celebration of life will be conducted at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 3:30 PM, with burial to be at Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church, 3505 Chestnut Ridge Church Road, Efland, NC  27243.
