Mebane

Carolyn F. Greene, 86, entered the heavenly realm March 8, 2026 in Mebane, NC. Born in Vance County, NC to the late Harold P. Fuller and the late Evelyn Faulkner Fuller Ayscue, Carolyn's life was one of faith, love, joy, service, music, creativity and hospitality. In her youth, she prayed for a match who had particular characteristics and she found these in a certain young man named A.B. (Augustus Byron) Greene, Jr. The couple didn't waste any time, marrying the day after her graduation from Aycock High School. A.B. was called into the ministry and Carolyn helped support him through all the education needed, even typing all the papers he wrote. She herself attended Campbell College for a year before assuming a supportive role to her husband.

The happy couple began a family and had four children spanning over 10 years. One of the children, Angela, who had developmental disabilities, broke all expectations due to Carolyn's excellent mothering. Not expected to live past infancy, walk or talk, she did all those things and lived to the age of 52. Carolyn had seemingly boundless energy. She not only made time for being the primary caregiver and housekeeper, but also served tirelessly in the church alongside her husband (secretary, children's music director, youth leader, adult choir director, hostess for dinners. or whatever else might be needed). She also made time to sew clothes and costumes for her children, once winning prizes for all her children's costumes in a contest. On top of all these things, she had a successful career, serving as a secretary and medical transcriptionist. She got trained as a tumor registrar and initiated a registry for Mary Washington Hospital.

Much of Carolyn and A.B.'s married life was spent in Virginia, but they eventually did return to Vance County, North Carolina. Duke University Medical Center was the cap of her career, where she spent 18 years before retiring to care for her husband at home (who died suddenly in 2017). She was recognized by the doctors who knew her as the top in her field, and by patients as caring and efficient.

Besides her parents, her husband and one daughter, her brother Sherwood Fuller and niece Arlene Fuller Ellis predeceased her.

Carolyn is survived by her children Augustus Byron Greene, III (Pamela), Carol Greene Rush (Milton Terrell), and Harold Greene; her grandchildren Augustus Byron Greene, IV, Jeremy Greene (Renee), Emily Azocar, Gregory Greene, Megan Young (Philip), Thomas Rush, Anne AshLee Greene; her great grandchildren Isabel Greene, Gus Greene, Sam Greene, Nathaniel Greene (Christina), Ezekiel Greene, Isaiah Greene, Delilah Greene, Julissa Azocar, Raymond Azocar, Max Azocar, and Olen Young, and great-great grandchildren Archer Greene and Neil Greene. In addition, she is survived by her brothers Robert Fuller and Jeffrey Fuller, and nieces and nephews Lori Fuller (Jerry Nave), Stephanie Hopkins Coghill (Troy), Cathy Hope, Robbie Fuller (Amanda), Jonathan Fuller (Sarena) and Annette Duncan (William).

Carolyn's deeply personal legacy of faith, love and joy along with her passion for family, music, service, humility, and grace will reverberate throughout the generations to come.

A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday March 14, 2026 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel, 1308 S. Third St, Mebane, NC.
