SNOW CAMP - Carolyn Wilson Patterson, 80, of 2902 Quakenbush Road, Snow Camp, N.C. 27349, passed away at the Hospice Home on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at 6 p.m. Mom fought long and hard for 13-and-a-half years, after having a major stroke at the young age of 66, with her loving husband tending to her until his passing in 2004. For the last 9-and-a-half years, she was tended to by her daughter Shawn and husband Mike. Even though the stroke took her speech, she always had a way to let her know what she needed or wanted. It didn't hold her down. She traveled to see her first great-grandchild when she was only two days old. Soon after, she made the trip to see her second great-grandchild. Both trips were hard for her physically, but the love and happiness more than made up for the effort she spent. Mom had a strong personality but a tender heart and loved her family very much. She was employed with Kayser-Roth Corporation for over 30 years until her retirement in 1990. A certified bowling coach, she dedicated many years to helping teenagers become bowlers and bowling herself for many years, until a stroke stopped her from throwing that 11-lb. bowling ball, sometimes bowling three times a week. Even then she kept going to watch the love of her life bowl every Monday night on the Monday Night Classic League. Up until her stroke in 2000, mom was secretary and treasurer for the Monday Night Classic Bowling League and also served on the Burlington Women's Bowling Association for many years in an official capacity. Mom enjoyed traveling, with her adventures starting with her husband's Men's National Bowling Tournament for which she traveled to New York, Nevada, Utah and many more places. She also dearly loved going to her place at Badin Lake, taking her two youngest granddaughters, Monica and Melissa, with whom she spent many good times, even going to school adventures when mom couldn't. Special recognition goes to her four legged grand-dogs, Ella and Duke, who always knew when mom needed something. Ella always laid with her in her recliner and visited her during her stay at Hospice. Duke always walked right beside her when he visited.Survivors include her daughter, Shawn Billings and husband Mike; sons, Steven C. Patterson and wife Donna and Kevin D. Patterson and wife Frances; grandchildren, Monica L. Dixon and Erick, Melissa K. Billings, Jennifer M. Patterson, Jonathan D. Patterson and Becca, and Will C. Patterson; great-grandchildren, Kinleigh Nicole Dixon and Emma Kate Patterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Carl Patterson; parents, Ollie David Wilson and Josephine Eliza Wilson; and brothers, David Wilson and Donald Wilson. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham, with burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service time and at other times at the residence. We would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for the loving care they gave mother during her stay.
