Carolyn Ann Utberg-Hood

Carolyn Ann Utberg-Hood, age 85, passed away quietly near her home in Gibsonville, NC on February 20, 2025. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Don Utberg-Hood, 7 children, 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was born and raised in Avalon, PA with three siblings who preceded her in death. She lived for a number of years in Western Pennsylvania. After spending some years in Texas, they relocated to North Carolina.

She was known as a person of many interests and maintained important friendships throughout her life. She also enjoyed various arts, reading and crafting. Imagine someone discussing literature while quilting with friends and you’ll get a good picture. While her health allowed, she enjoyed travel as well. She was an active member of Lutheran churches wherever she lived.

Carolyn spent many years as a part-time student while working. She advanced step by step until finally earning a bachelor's degree. Following that, she taught English at community colleges.

In honoring her wishes, the family announces to friends and loved ones she wanted no services, but designated two charities if anyone wishes to donate in her name:
