Charles Darwin Bailey

April 14, 1931 — June 20, 2013

SNOW CAMP - Mr. Charles "Doc" Darwin Bailey (The Best They Is) of 726 Lamb Road, Snow Camp, N.C. 27349, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at UNC Hospitals. Charles, a lifelong resident of Snow Camp, was a U.S. Army veteran, serving two years during the Korean Conflict. Charles retired from Western Electric/AT&T, and later worked as an EMT and was once the Fire Chief for Snow Camp Fire Department, of which he was extremely proud. In his free time he was an avid sports enthusiast, especially loving basketball, softball, boating and skiing. He was an active member of the Senior Games, where he loved playing badminton. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Snow Camp. Charles leaves behind his wife, Joyce Abercrombie Bailey, of the home; son, Gary Charles Bailey (Donna) of Tennessee; daughter, Linda Lyskawa (Chet) of Roxboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Kirstin DeBoer (Tim) of Illinois, Carrie Myers (Cory )f Illinois, Stephenie Bailey, Abigail Bailey, Amber Arnold, Angy Arnold and Elisabeth Huff, all of Tennessee, and Tiffany Warmowsky (Steve) and Nicole Potter (Matt), both of Illinois; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who knew Charles by his nickname, Uncle "Dockie". In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by an infant brother, Dail Bailey. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham, N.C. and at other times at the residence. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Snow Camp, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alamance/Burlington Senior Games, P.O. Box 1358, Burlington, NC 27216.
