Charles Winfred Baker

Charles Winfred Baker went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2015. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years Lois Carol Sykes Baker of Efland, NC. The couple married in 1960 at Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church in Efland, NC and to that union were born 2 sons, Charles Winfred “Chuck” Baker, Jr. (Sandra) of Columbia, SC and Caleb Winslowe Baker and wife, Courtney of Mebane, NC. Other survivors are Ron Baker (Brother) and wife, Brenda – Mebane, NC, Carol Famer (Sister) and husband, Durwood – Greenville, SC Grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Kaitlyn , and T.J., Dan Sykes (Brother-In-Law) and wife Marie – Cedar Grove, Gloria Sykes (Sister – In – Law)- Roxboro and numerous nieces and nephews of which he loved very much! His family was very special to him. Charles was born at Watts Hospital in Durham, NC on November 28, 1939 to the late Charlie Almond Baker and late Valeria Little Baker. He attended Holloway St. Elementary School, East Durham Jr. High School and was graduated from Northern High School in Durham, NC in 1958 and then graduated from Campbell College, Buies Creek, NC. Charles served in the North Carolina National Guard in Durham, NC from 1962 till 1969 and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1968 Charles trusted the Crucified, Risen Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior from sin and sought to begin a lifetime of service for Him! He served for several years as local director of Child Evangelism Fellowship in Durham County, NC. In 1974 he was called to Pastor the Fair Oaks Gospel Chapel in Winston Salem, NC. In 1977 he became Executive Director of Mountain Top Youth Camp in Pinnacle, NC and served there till the end of 1999. Later, he became Food Service Manager of the Pittsboro Christian Village in Pittsboro, NC. He retired from PCV in 2007 and the couple moved back to the homeplace in Efland. Charles also served with the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) in Winston Salem, NC when he worked with the Forsyth County Ambulance Service. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday May 18, 2015 at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service time at McClure Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Batts and Alan Jones will officiate the service.
