Charles F. Ross (Chuck), 92, of Graham passed away on January 29, 2018 at ARMC. Chuck was born on April 27, 1925 in Mount Airy, NC, to William Edgar and Maud Green Ross. He graduated from Graham High School in 1943 and entered the Army Air Corps in early 1944. After aircrew training he served as a top turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator with the 13th Air Force, flying 44 combat missions in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war he met a beautiful Caswell County girl named Mary Frances Frazier while both worked at the Western Electric plant in Burlington. They married in 1947, settled in Graham, and raised three children - Randall Charles, Jeffrey Wayne, and Laurie Elizabeth. Chuck worked for over 30 years for Bell Labs as a design draftsman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham for almost 70 years. Throughout the 1960s and '70s he served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 25 and he enjoyed those days immensely. He was famous for taking the boys on camping trips in all seasons and for the original ghost stories he told around the campfire. He also loved to build things for his kids and grand kids, including a home made go cart, several elaborate forts, armored vehicles, various rafts, and a beautiful set of totem poles with a likeness of each of his grand kids. He was an inspiration to all who knew him, was deeply loved by his family and friends, and will continue to live in our hearts forever. Survivors include his daughter Laurie Carter (Gary) of Morehead City, his sons Randy Ross (Charlynn) of Raleigh, and Jeff Ross (Bonnie) of Twin Falls, Idaho, eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Frazier Ross, one sister, three brothers and one grandchild. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at McClure Funeral and Cremation Service in Graham. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Graham with the Rev. Travis Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park.
