Cleo Marie Riley Barker Self

Mrs. Cleo Self, 89, died at home on the evening of Monday, May 15, 2017. Her two daughters, two sons-in-law and her cat Patches were with her at the end. Cleo was born on February 9, 1928 in Haw River. She was one of nine children born to Enoch and Elma Riley. Three of her siblings out live her; John Allen Riley of Punta Gorda Fl., Faye Dean Riley Jones of Port Orange, Fl., and Mike Riley of Burlington. Cleo’s working career included retail and manufacturing employment. Cleo has three children; Troy Robert Surles, Jr. (Jeanne) of Sunrise, Fl., Kathy Barker Lynch (John) of Chapel Hill and Penny Barker Howard (Larry) of Bahama, NC. She has one grandson, Joseph Surles (Ashley) and two great grandchildren. She was a devoted member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and an active member of the Haw River Seniors Group. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday May 19, 2017 at McClure Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Graham. The family will receive friends from 10-11 on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Town of Haw River Cemetery immediately following the service.
