BURLINGTON - Conrad Gattis "Red" Sumner, 75, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Alamance County, retired from Page's Laundry and a lifelong member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church where he was an usher, a member of the Bennie Smith Sunday School Class and a member of the visitation team. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elizabeth Taylor Sumner; brothers and sisters, Gerald, Grady, Grant, Beverly and Sally. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Harris and husband Ben of Wilmington; son, Ernest Sumner of San Diego, Calif.; brothers, Gordon Sumner of Haw River and Jeff Sumner of Southern Pines; sisters, Brenda Allred of Haw River, Mary Cook and husband Tom of Graham and Kay Laughlin of Burlington; grandchildren; Kensleigh Ables, Clarissa Harris, Katelynn Harris and Madeline Harris; great- granddaughter, Zoey Harris. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Staley Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Bennie Smith. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service, and at other times at the residence of Gary and Pat Strider, 1304 North Graham-Hopedale Road, Burlington.
