Constance May (Kummers) Legrande

Constance May LeGrande, 88, of Mebane, NC, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at her home. Known as Connie, she was born May 28, 1934 in Elm Grove, West Virginia to the late George and Hattie Kummers. On December 3, 1954, in Texas, Connie was married to the late Marvin Ray LeGrande with whom she was blessed to share her life for nearly 60 years.

She was a graduate of Louisiana State University. She taught fourth grade and loved children. She and Marvin lived around the country during their working careers. They retired to a farm in West Virginia which she spoke of often with fond memories.

She moved to North Carolina late in life to be nearer to family. She enjoyed peacefulness in her life over large gatherings, but was kind and thoughtful in her concern for others. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching football. She enjoyed short trips and sometimes would just take a drive to see where she would end up.

She was a strong supporter of the local police and fire departments wherever she lived and for many years brought them doughnuts on a weekly basis. She often provided financial donations to veterans’ groups, animal shelters, and organizations she felt supported those in need.

Connie was the youngest of five sisters, of whom Gerry Cook survives her; sisters Emily Wilcox, Eileen Jefferson, and GeorgeAnn Stanfield preceded her in death. Connie is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

McClure Funeral Service, Mebane, is handling final arrangements. Per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Her final resting place will be in West Virginia with her late husband. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to a charity of choice or to the
