Coy Vernon Kirby, age 93, of Mebane, North Carolina, passed away on May 9, 2026. He was born on March 11, 1933, in Caswell County, North Carolina, and lived a long life marked by faith, hard work, creativity, and devotion to his family and community. Coy was a Christian man whose life reflected the values he held dear. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and carried that sense of duty and service throughout his life. After his military service, he retired from White’s Furniture in Mebane, where he was known for his steady work ethic and dependable nature. He was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mebane, where he found fellowship and strength in his faith. Coy was a gifted wood craftsman who was both artistic and creative. He took great pride in his work and had a special talent for making things with his hands. His craftsmanship reflected the care and patience that were part of who he was. He also enjoyed following sports and was an avid supporter of the Eastern Alamance High School football program. He was a loyal Duke fan, enjoyed Major League Baseball, and especially loved the Atlanta Braves. In more recent years, he enjoyed cheering for whatever team Zach Littell was playing for. Those who knew Coy will remember him as a kind and generous man who would help anyone in need. He had never met a stranger, and his warm personality made others feel welcome and valued. He was the kind of man who left a lasting impression through simple acts of kindness, a friendly conversation, and a genuine interest in others. His presence brought comfort and encouragement to many. Coy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Susan Jane Willis Kirby, and by his parents, John H. and Eva Clayton Kirby. He was the 12th of 14 siblings, and he loved each of them very much. His large family was an important part of his life, and he carried those bonds with him always. He is survived by his loving children, Donna Kirby Flack and John V. Kirby and his wife Lisa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Daniel Flack and his wife Allison, Jacob Mosh and his wife Mary, J.T. Kirby and his wife Amie, and Lauren K. Coleman and her husband Parker. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Carter Flack, Elle Kirby, and Lorna Mosh, who brought him great joy. Coy Vernon Kirby will be remembered with love and respect by all who knew him. His life was a testament to faith, family, service, and kindness, and his memory will remain a blessing to those he leaves behind.
