Cynthia "Cindy" Cauble Champion

August 2, 1954 — May 11, 2021

Mebane

On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, Cynthia “Cindy” Cauble Champion left this earth and reunited in spirit with her parents and other departed loved ones. She was an accomplished artist and beloved teacher, sister, wife, and friend. This obituary is being written by her children, so, to us, she was the greatest mother anyone could ever ask for.

Mama was born in Charlotte on August 7th, 1954 to our late, and sorely missed grandparents David Cheek Cauble and Nancy Hatley Cauble. She grew up running around barefoot in the woods with her two sisters (read: partners in crime) Sharon and Anita, her Aunt Vickie (who was really more like a sister), and cousins Kathy and Christy.

In October of 1983, she married our dad, Chuck even though he had long hair, and a perm.

She said that if he promised to stop cussing, she would marry him. And thank goodness she did, because otherwise we wouldn’t be writing this! Our parents loved one another, and we grew up hearing our dad working on songs he was writing for our mom, celebrating her spirit and her creativity. They showed us that marriage is an equal partnership, and it’s not easy - but it can be so rewarding.

We like to think Mama bestowed her creative abilities upon us, but in reality she had artistic talent that was unparalleled - a painter, graphic designer, potter, fibers artist, printmaker, singer, and the list goes on. We could write a dissertation just listing her creative abilities. She was abundantly humble, and viewed everything she did in her life as an act of ministry. Mama taught us to use our talents to glorify God, and to bring people to Christ. She made everyone feel important, special, and loved - every friend we brought home felt like they were her kid, too.

As an Art Teacher, she became a parent to kids who needed one, she celebrated the kids who were different, and she sought to bring a little beauty into the everyday for her students.

She lived her life as an example of how to treat others, how to be a follower of Christ, and how to find joy in almost everything - what more can you ask of a parent?

She is survived by our dad Chuck Champion, her two (incredible) children Katy Champion Leute (Jaridd) and Andy Champion (Kurt Eltz) and her three grandchildren David, Elizabeth, and Anna Kate Leute; Her two sisters Sharon Cauble Holliday (Kevin), Anita Cauble Davis (Tommy) and their children and grandchildren; Her uncle Wayne Hatley (Sarah) and their children and grandchildren; Her aunt Vickie Hatley Martin (Phil) and their children and grandchildren; Her sister-in-law Vicki Champion Bryant (Jimmy) and their children and grandchildren; Her cousin Christy Byrum Williams (Carl) and their children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Mebane from 1:00 to 2:00 on Friday May 14, 2021. A memorial service will be held at the church at 2:00.
