BURLINGTON - Daniel Ray "Danny" Crews, 55, of 904 Stokes Street, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at his home. Born in Person County, Jan. 19, 1960, he was the son of Allen R. Crews Jr. and Lillie P. Crews. In 1965 his parents moved to Graham, N.C. and he attended the local schools. A few months after graduating from Graham High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Clifton Sprague. Having been on the ship when it was commissioned, Danny was considered a "plank owner of the ship" and received a plaque of recognition for that honor. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class and achieved the position of Fire Control Technician. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy, he was employed by Ciscom in New York as an electric technician. He was employed for many years at Cone Mills in Greensboro and later with the U.S. Flue Tobacco Co. Inc. Danny treasured his family and many friends and received his greatest joy in helping others. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Donald L. Chambers of Cheraw, S.C., Gary Chambers and Dwayne Crews, both of Graham; and numerous cousins. Visitation will be held at McClure Funeral Service in Graham from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015, in the McClure Funeral Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Bob Stephenson. Interment will be in Alamance Memorial Park on Hwy. 70 West. At other times the family will be at the home of the mother, 182 Windsor Drive, Graham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
