Sergeant First Class David Edward Rancourt, 69, of Graham, NC, entered Heaven on December 19, 2023 from cancer surrounded by his wife and daughters. David was born on July 27, 1954 to Edward and Alma (Knudsen) Rancourt in Boston, MA. After graduating from Watertown Senior High School in 1972, he went on to enlist in the U.S. Army. His service would see him assigned to Fort Dix, NJ; Fort Lewis, WA; Heidelberg, Germany, Fort Carson, CO; Böblingen, Germany; Fort Riley, KS; and Göppingen, Germany before returning to Fort Carson and retirement. During his first tour at Fort Carson, he married Merrie Lynn Spencer on August 16, 1976 one week after meeting her. They went on to have two children, Sharal Lynn and Anna Michelle. After their return to Fort Carson and David’s retirement, he went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and to work as a contractor for SAIC. In 2013 they moved to Jacksonville, NC to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. David continued his work as a contractor for CACI at Camp Lejeune until retiring in 2018. In 2021 they moved to their retirement home in Graham, NC so that they could be closer to their granddaughters, theater, concerts, and other activities they enjoyed, as well as away from hurricanes. After a lifetime of moving around the U.S., they finally found their home church. David was fond of saying that it is literally right around the corner from their home. They joined New Covenant Fellowship Church on Christmas Day, 2022. David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather as well as an accomplished IT specialist. His greatest earthly joy was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deborah Ann Rancourt. He is survived by his wife, Merrie; his daughters Sharal (José) Payero and Anna (Daryl) Mackie; his six grandchildren, David Reyes, Zebastian Payero, Kathryn Mackie, Sara Mackie, Isaac Payero, and Emilia Mackie; his brothers Daniel (Anita Susan), Donald (Deborah Jean), and Douglas (Helen Theresa). There will be a Celebration of Life on January 27, 2024 at New Covenant Fellowship Church, Graham, NC. at 2:00 PM with the Pastor Brian Dehart officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Authoracare Hospice Home, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 in his memory.
