David Starr Stanfield Sr. of Burlington, NC passed peacefully in his sleep on December 21st at his residence in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas just shy of his 72nd birthday.
He is survived by his wife Terre Stanfield of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, his oldest son David Starr, Jr. and his wife Tiffany along with their children Sarah Kennedy and James Holland of Columbia, South Carolina, and his youngest son, Thomas Patrick and his wife Jamie along with their children Thomas Patrick, Jr., Julianne Elizabeth, and Addison Grace of Winterville, NC, and also David’s sister Terry Lynn and her husband Rex Terrell of Burlington, NC, mother of his sons Annie R. Bartley of Winterville, NC.
David was born January 4th, 1948 to Purvis “Buck” and Sarah Elizabeth Phillips Stanfield. Throughout his professional construction career David made a name for himself as a prominent and well-respected builder with David S. Stanfield Builders in Alamance and surrounding counties. Additionally, he served honorably with the US Army as a Military Police Officer at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was a very involved dedicated father participating with sons through the Boys Scouts of America, being a mentor for other young men, and a devoted Grandpa to all of his grandchildren. One of his proudest moments was watching both of his sons reach Eagle Scout as he did when he was a young man.
David was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing along with sharing fond memories of good times at Buggs Island with friends and family. He was known for his laugh and smile! David was known to tell quite the tall tale always ending in a great belly laugh from everyone who would listen. He was well loved and will be missed beyond words.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday January 25th from 2-7pm at the Southern Caswell Ruritan Building, 9614 NC 62, Burlington, NC. His sons are planning a Brunswick Stew, David’s favorite dish, and invite all friends and family to attend to share stories, laughs, and songs in true David style.
