Don DeBlaey of Durham, NC passed away on September 29th 2014 after a long illness. He was born February 24, 1932 to the late Harry DeBlaey and Geneva Vande Water DeBlaey in Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Patricia Flannery DeBlaey and by brother, Paul DeBlaey and Paul’s wife Alberta. He is survived by 3 daughters Deborah Vuolo and husband Kenneth, of Roxboro, NC, Roni Schutt and husband Eric, of Mebane, NC, and Donna Russell and husband Doug, of Mebane, NC; 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Gordon DeBlaey and wife Marcie of Grand Rapids, MI He served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Paratrooper. He and his wife Pat married and raised their family in Midland Park NJ where Don also served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter with many years as Fire Chief. He was employed as a refrigeration engineer until his retirement in 1998. Don’s greatest love was spending time with his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. His unselfish and loving character made him a great role model and patriarch of our family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday October 3, 2014 at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cindy Lister officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 Thursday evening October 2, 2014 at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane.
