Burlington Donald David Holmes, Sr. , 68, formerly of Trail Eight in Burlington died Tuesday, June 14 at the Hospice Home in Burlington. He was a native of Orange County. He retired from US Foods after 40 years and was active in his community. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, helped with fundraising for the ASPCA, visited rest homes at Christmas dressed as Santa and enjoyed traveling to the coast and fishing. His parents were the late Junius David “J.D.” & Ruth Durham Holmes. He is survived by his son, Donald David Holmes Jr. & wife Pam of Charlotte; grandchildren, Lauren Holmes and Madelyn Holmes of Charlotte; sister, Margaret Holloway and husband Phil of Efland; brothers, Ronald Holmes & wife Patsy of Hillsborough, and George Holmes & wife Liz of Mebane. A service to celebrate his life will be 11:00 Friday at Cane Creek Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Wayne Howard. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family invites friends to visit and fellowship at the Cane Creek Community Center following the graveside committal service.
