Doris Gattis Cook, 85, went to join her Eternal Father, beloved husband, William Paul Cook, and dearest son, Barry Wilson Sykes, Saturday April 28, 2018.
Born May 15, 1932 to the late Robert D. and Mittie S. Gattis of Hillsborough, Doris grew up living a fruitful life. She retired from Western Electric/Lucent Technologies and led an active life that included a passion for softball, crafting, and many more pastimes.
A compassionate soul who was involved with her church, Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church, Doris sang in the choir and cooked for church events. Doris was very thoughtful of others and always could be counted on. She was full of tenacity and patience in which many admired her for.
Preceding her in death is: late sister Daphene G. Scarlett; brother-in-law Bobby C. Burton.
Surviving family are: sisters Peggy G. Walker (Norman), Jackie G. Burton; brother Ronald D. Gattis (Betty); brother-in-law Edward Scarlett; many nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews; step-daughter Paula C. Oakley (Tom); step-grandchildren Megan W. Stanford, Melyssa W. Daulton, and Jeffrey F. Williams; sister-in-laws Jeanie C. Sturdivant and Helen C. Whitt.
Doris also leaves a second family that were so grateful to have her, Pamela J. deFriess, goddaughter Natalie d. Rigsbee (Kevin), godson Jonathan R. deFriess (Katrina). Natalie and Jonathan held a special place in her heart.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church 3505 Chestnut Ridge Church Road Efland, NC 27243 and Orange County Rural Alliance (O.C.R.A.) P.O. Box 642 Hillsborough, NC 27278.
Visitation will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane on Thursday May 3, 2018 from 6 until 8 PM.
Funeral Service will be Friday May 4th at 11am at Chestnut Ridge Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
