Dorothy Stainback

Mrs. Dorothy Ellen Roberts Stainback, age 88 of 791 Boone Station Drive, Burlington, NC died at 7:15pm Monday, December 18, 2017 at Moses Cone Hospital after several years of failing health. She was born September 20, 1929 in Graham County, NC to the late Thomas Jefferson Roberts and the late BerthaJane Wiggins Roberts. Also preceding her in death was her husband Hubert Thomas Stainback, granddaughter Courtney Gregory, brothers James Alfred Roberts and Roy Frederick “Fred” Roberts. Dorothy was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mebane Ward. Her life was greatly enriched by her enthusiastic love of sewing, gardening, crafts, flowers, cooking, art and bingo. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and retired from Western Electric. Surviving are daughters and their husbands Dianne Shipp and Bill, Amanda Gregory and Tim, sons and their wives Ken Stainback and Debby, Erwin Stainback and Susan. Grandchildren Joshua Stainback, Kimberly Moore and husband Tripp, Cameron Michael and husband Brian, Lauren Stainback, Anna Melendez and husbandRicky, Alex Gregory and wife Bailey, Patrick O’Shields, Kimberly Brown, Angie Pennock and husband Mike, Stephanie Swain and husband Dr. Matt Swain, great-grandchildren Shae Moore, Allie Moore, Mason Gregory, August Melendez, Joshua Brown, Jacob Brown, Kali O’Shields, Patton O’Shields and Sammy O’Shields, Gavin Pennock, Anna Swain and Indie Swain, sisters Edna Batton and husband Danny and Annie Bartley husband John, brothers Alvin Roberts, Herman Roberts and wife Jean, sister in laws Geneva Roberts and Maxine Roberts. A Celebratory Remembrance Service for Dorothy’s life will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, December 23, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 150 Ashbury Boulevard, Mebane, NC 27302 officiated by Bishop Rick Morse and Bishop Howard Overson. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12:00pm until 1:30pm. A Graveside service will follow at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Cemetery, 1401 Rascoe-Dameron Road, Burlington, NC 27217 officiated by Pastor Kevin Barbour and Pastor Larry Lamberth. Public viewing prior to Saturday will be held on Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm at McClure Funeral andCremation Service 1308 South Third Street, Mebane, NC 27302. Memorial donations can be made in memory of Dorothy at “ LDS Philanthropies Humanitarian Aid Fund”at www.ldsphilanthropies.org .
