Edward Leon Madden

Mr. Edward Leon Madden, 95, a lifelong resident of Saxapahaw, NC passed away on Saturday March 4, 2017 at the Homeplace of Burlington. A native of Alamance County, NC, he was the son of the late John J. and Annie Thompson Madden. He was a lifelong member of Saxapahaw United Methodist Church and was very active in the Boy Scout Troop #65 where he was proud of both of his sons for achieving Eagle Scout. He had worked with Sellers Manufacturing Company 54 years before becoming Dixie Yarns prior to his retirement. He was a proud veteran of the US ARMY Air Corps serving in WWII where he attended B-17 school in Texas and California as well as being a mechanic, a Crew Chief and a Flight Engineer for the US ARMY. He was a member and past Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Eli Whitney and Saxapahaw School Board. Survivors include his son, Steve Madden and wife Martha; Daughter in Law, Judy Madden; grandchildren, Phillip Madden and wife Lizanne, Tara Mitchell and husband Brice, and Lisa Gandy and husband Jeff; great grandchildren, Kayla Madden, Caroline Madden, Sydney Madden, Morgan Madden, Christian Calloway, Johnathan Calloway, Ethan Mitchell, Molly Mitchell, Laurel Gandy, and Leighton Gandy. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Bowers Madden; son, John E. Madden; grandson, Michael Madden; brothers, John Ray Madden, Gilbert Madden and Cuel Madden. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday March 8, 2017 at the Saxapahaw United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Moore’s Chapel Cemetery.
