MEBANE - Ellen Nicole Tobin, 22, of 515 Ashland Drive, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015, in Mexico. Ellen was born in New Britain, Conn. She founded and was owner/operator of Ellen Tobin LLC at Woodlawn Stables, through which she shared her passion and love of all things horses with many adults and children. She trained horses and taught the art, sport, and discipline of riding to others. She was a graduate of St. Andrews University and a member of Cross Roads Presbyterian Church. Ellen is survived by her mother, Lisa Seman Tobin Fitzpatrick; brother, Ian Michael Tobin; and stepfather, Douglas Carl Fitzpatrick, of the home; father, Michael Fredrick Tobin Jr. of Connecticut; maternal grandmother, Susan W. Seman of Mebane. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Matthew Randolph. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 5 until 8 Friday evening. At other times they will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Ellen Tobin Memorial Fund. Money from the fund will be used to contribute to the North Carolina Therapeutic Riding Center, to provide scholarships to support students at St. Andrews University and to support children locally who want to ride or show but don't have the funds.
