Eugene "Gene" Franklin Mauck Jr.

April 1, 1942 — August 5, 2025

Hillsborough/Graham

Eugene Franklin Mauck Jr., affectionately known as Gene to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at White Oak Manor in Alamance County, NC. Born on April 1, 1942, in Virginia, Gene's life was marked by his jovial spirit and unwavering dedication to his loved ones and community. Gene's early years were spent in the scenic landscapes of Virginia, where he was born to Eugene F. Mauck Sr. and Lillie Barrett Mauck. His childhood was filled with the warmth of a close-knit family, though he would later bid farewell to his parents and his sister, Catherine Nooney, who preceded him in death. Gene attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he carried the Tar Heel spirit throughout his life. Gene was well-known in Hillsborough for his ownership of the Mayflower Seafood Restaurant and the Pizza Transit Authority (PTA), establishments that became staples in the local community. In his later years, he found joy and purpose in shaping young minds as a substitute teacher with the Orange County School System. Gene's service to his country as a member of the US Army was a source of immense pride for him and his family. His patriotism was matched only by his love for sports, particularly his unwavering support for the Washington Redskins and the North Carolina Tar Heels. His infectious enthusiasm for his teams was a testament to his spirited personality. Above all, Gene cherished his role as a father and grandfather. His daughter, Ashley Mauck, and his grandchildren, Mickey and Ava, were the light of his life. He took every opportunity to spoil them with love and attention, and their happiness was the reason behind his ever-present smile. An exchange student, Alex that lived with him for a year was like family. And many loving family members in Virginia. Gene's playful nature was legendary, and he never missed a chance to share a joke or a silly story, especially on his birthday, which fittingly fell on April Fools' Day. Gene's ability to connect with people was one of his most endearing qualities. He loved to talk and had the gift of making everyone around him feel at ease. His laughter and good-natured teasing will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Piedmont Senior Healthcare (PACE) for their exceptional love and care provided to Mr. Mauck during his time there. Their kindness and support were a great comfort to him and his family. Gene's legacy is one of love, laughter, and service. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a community richer for his presence. As we bid farewell to Eugene Franklin Mauck Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived and a man dearly loved. His memory will continue to inspire and bring joy to those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of White Oak Manor for their care and love that they have shown Gene.
