Florine Glenn

Mebane

Florine “Flo” Glenn, 88, affectionately known as Grandma Flo, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Home on Saturday, February 21, 2026, after a brief illness following a cardiac arrest on December 31, 2025.

Flo was the oldest of five children, and she had a special bond with her daddy, Woodrow Hicks. She loved the song You are My Sunshine because her daddy would sing it to her. After the passing of her father, she became the matriarch of the family, raising her daughter Delilah and ensuring her younger siblings were well taken care of.

She was the wife of the late Dr. A.T. (Andy) Glenn Jr. They were married 47 years, and for 29 of those years they worked side by side serving the community at Dr. Glenn’s optometry office in Mebane. And when they weren’t working, they were going—sharing adventures all over the world that most people only get to dream about. They made it to Brazil, Greece, Italy, all over the United States, and on more than a few cruises, too.

After she retired, Flo volunteered with Hospice for 25 years. She also stayed busy doing demos at Walmart and local grocery stores, where she met people, talked with people, and made friends just about everywhere she went. Anybody who met her learned pretty quick, Flo had “no filter,” and you always knew where you stood with her. She was a proud member of The Red Hat Society for many years and loved the laughs, the outings, and the friendships she found with that special group of ladies. Flo wasn’t one to sit still, she liked to stay busy.

Flo loved her family, and it wasn’t unusual to get a phone call that said, “I’ve cooked—y’all come eat.” For years, she kept the tradition of Wednesday and Sunday dinners going strong. And right up there with her people were her fur babies, she loved them something fierce. Flo also loved growing her own vegetables, and she was always happy to share. She helped people who needed it, not for praise or attention, but simply because she believed it was the right thing to do.

In 2010, she met John Haynes, who became her companion and a beloved part of our family. The two of them enjoyed traveling and spending time together.

Flo will be missed by her daughter, Delilah Tucker (Byron); her granddaughter, Amy Ward (Mike); her grandson, Michael Stuart (Michelle); her great-grandchildren, Gavin, Cody, Abby, and Harper; and her special friend, JoAnn Faulkner, who was like a sister.

In recent years, Flo was cared for by her daughter, and the two of them spent a lot of quality time together. Those days gave Delilah the chance to hear more of Flo’s childhood stories and learn even more about the life she lived.

Visitation will be held on Friday February 27, 2026 from 1-2pm followed immediately by a celebration of life in the Chapel at McClure Funeral Home, Mebane led by Willie Teague.

The family will receive friends at the home of Byron & Delilah Tucker.

The family would like to thank Jennifer Burgess, Flo’s home health nurse, for her kindness and the wonderful care she provided. We also want to thank AuthoraCare Collective of Burlington for the compassion shown to Flo and to our family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to AuthoraCare Collective of Burlington or Burlington Animal Services.
