The world lost a little bit of its sparkle with the passing of Franklin “TJ” Todd Johnson, a man whose laughter, kindness, and love of life were as big as his heart.
Born to the late Andrew and Rena Johnson, TJ was raised in Graham, North Carolina. TJ had an extraordinary gift for finding joy in the everyday and sharing it with everyone around him. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere—and before long, they’d be laughing, swapping stories, and feeling truly seen. Whether it was a lifelong friend or a stranger met in line at the grocery store, TJ had a way of making people feel like they mattered.
A true lover of life’s simple pleasures, TJ was happiest when he was on the move—traveling to new places, feeling the sand beneath his feet at the beach, or losing himself in the energy of a live concert. Music was the rhythm of his life; he had an unmatched talent for creating the perfect playlist for every moment, every mood, and every friend. His playlists weren’t just songs, they were love letters, little gifts that captured the soundtrack of shared memories.
TJ had a joyful spirit and an unmatched enthusiasm for celebration. He never missed a reason to throw a party, whether it was a birthday, a holiday, or even one of those quirky national day holidays (no one celebrated National Chocolate Mousse Day quite like TJ). His thoughtful, themed gifts and festive decorations were reflections of his creativity and his generous heart.
He was also deeply compassionate, especially toward animals. TJ shared his life with three beloved dogs—Charlie, Otis, and Boo Boo, who preceded him in death and now, we imagine, are happily greeting him again. Also other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Cynthia Griffith of Elon.
Those who knew TJ will remember his warmth, his humor, and his way of making life feel just a little brighter. To honor his memory, friends and family ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society, a cause close to his heart.
Though TJ may have left this world, his kindness, laughter, and music live on in every heart he touched and every playlist he made.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 11am-1pm at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane.
