Gary Bess

Former California Resident, Gary William Bess, 68, passed away from natural causes on Friday September 8, 2023, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, North Carolina.

Born to the late William Bess and Marjorie Sprowls, Gary is survived by Greg Bess (brother), Lilly Bess (sister), Cortney Bauer (daughter), Heather Pinnix (daughter), Amy Pence (daughter), and James Parks (son).  He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Bess.

Gary was a loving grandfather to his 11 grandchildren and was looking forward to meeting his first Great Grandchild in November.

In his free time, Gary thoroughly enjoyed sports. He especially loved hockey season, frequently attending games for the Canes, Dodgers and Angels. Gary was also an avid international traveler visiting such places as Ireland and Japan.  Gary loved traveling to Hawaii, attending concerts with his friends and family, and was a knowledgeable history buff.  Over the years he enjoyed his time spent living in Maryland and sharing his knowledge of US History.

A private ceremony will be held for immediate family on Tuesday September 12th, 2023. Gary’s Celebration of Life will be held in the coming weeks.
