Gary Wayne Franklin

Gary Wayne Franklin, 64 of Mebane, NC, born October 7, 1957, passed away after a long battle of dementia on July 16, 2022 at his home - the same place where he was married on May 30, 1976, to his wife, Linda - where they resided for 46 years and raised their three children.

Gary and Linda shared a special love. The two enjoyed traveling to the beach and supported all dance and sporting events that their children were involved in.  Gary, a sales representative of Mebane Lumber for 31 years, was a leader in building the press boxes that still stand behind home plates at Hawfields Middle School and Eastern Alamance High School. Gary was a huge sports fan of UNC Tar Heels, New York Yankees, and Dallas Cowboys.

Survivors are his wife, Linda Hammond Franklin, daughter Christy Franklin Kernodle and husband Kenneth, sons Garry Taft Franklin and wife Kelly and Tyler Wayne Franklin and wife Kristin “Pom Pom”, sister Brenda Franklin James and husband Richard of Haw River, NC, brothers Jimmy Franklin of Burlington, NC, Woody Franklin and his wife Leann of Casselberry, FL, Mike Franklin and wife Tracy of Melbourne, FL, numerous nieces and nephews. Grandchildren Karsen, Caylee, and Kennedy Kernodle, Anniston and Garrett Franklin, and Levi and Asher Franklin all of Mebane, NC.

Gary was preceded in death by his son, James Robert Franklin “Robbie”, parents James Henry Franklin Sr. and Annie Doris Rice Franklin, and his brother Richard “Ricky” Taft Franklin.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on July 18, 2022 at Graham Memorial Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jesse London. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service at the home of Gary and Linda Franklin. McClure Funeral Service in Mebane is assisting the family.
