Gary Matthew Smith, 71, of Graham, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Gary was a kind and generous man with a heart as big as his love for people and animals—especially cats. Known for his strong work ethic, he balanced working full time, part time, and attending school, always striving to better himself and help others. A true jack of all trades, Gary held his contractor’s license and took great pride in his skills and accomplishments. He loved spending time with his wife, who was the light of his life. Together, they shared countless happy moments, especially at the beach, one of Gary’s favorite places to relax. His family and friends will remember him for his compassion, reliability, and the way he made everyone feel cared for and valued. Gary will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Betty Smith; his brothers, Raymond Smith and Ervin Smith; and his sisters, Billie Ross and Jean Ashby.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Terry Smith; his brothers, Dennis Smith (Carolyn) and Carl Smith (Kitty); many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great, great nieces and nephews.

A service will be held to honor his life on Saturday, October 18, 2025, beginning at 12:00pm at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00am.
