George Byron Crotts

George Byron Crotts, 91, of Graham entered Heaven with Jesus Christ Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015. Mr. Crotts was born on March 2, 1924, in Siler City, NC, the son of the late Charles Anderson and Clara Allred Crotts. He was educated in the public schools of Chatham County, and answered the call of his country during World War II to serve in the United States Navy in the South West Pacific Theater. During World War II, he was hitchhiking when the Aiken family stopped to pick him up in Greensboro, and drove him home to his family in Siler City. He and their daughter, Elizabeth, would write to each other for the duration of the war, and at its end she would become his wife. Together, they started Graham Furniture Mart in 1948. George was a member of The Lamb’s Chapel in Haw River, and was possessed of a deep faith. He was a generous provider for his family and those around him. He is survived by three sons, Paul Byron Crotts and wife Paula of Snow Camp, NC, The Reverend Stephen Michael Crotts and wife Kathryn of Hillsborough, NC, and Dr. John Charles Crotts of Mt. Pleasant, SC, grandchildren, Mark Crotts of Snow Camp, NC, Tricia Councilman and husband Jeff of Burlington, NC, Claire Alley and husband Grieg of Wilmington, NC, The Reverend Bryan Crotts and wife Amanda of Burlington, NC, David Crotts and wife Kathryn of Washington, DC, Matthew Crotts and wife Jenica of Augusta, GA, Sarah Friedrich and husband David of Charleston, SC, Steven Harrison of Greensboro, NC, Ryan Harrison of Greensboro, NC, Holli Harrison of Cornelius, NC, and Danielle Jones of Burlington; great-grandchildren, Austin Crotts, Lexie, Lily, Landon, and Ladd Councilman, George, Beckett and Henry Alley, Carolyn, Patrick, and Martha Ann Crotts, Charles Crotts, and Kaleb Florence. Mr. Crotts is also survived by his sister, Mary Lyall Howell of Charlotte, NC, and nephew Andrew Rich. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Aiken Crotts, a grandson, John Michael Crotts, daughter-in-law, Sally Colgin, and siblings Lucille Rich, Catherine Sumner, Charles Crotts, Frank Crotts, and Douglas Crotts. The family would like to thank caregivers Peggy Boggs, Lucy Davis, and Vivian White for the care they provided for George so that he could remain in his home; they also thank Cone Selective Specialty Unit, Edgewood Place At The Village At Brookwood, and the doctors and nurses who cared for George during his last illness. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at The Lamb’s Chapel, Haw River, NC with Pastor Brian Biggers and The Reverend Bryan Crotts officiating. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 6-8 pm at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham, 1030 S Main St, Graham, NC.
