MEBANE - Mr. George Thompson Lynch Jr., 90, of 2771 Bason Road, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at the Hospice Home of Burlington after several years of failing health.Born in Alamance County he was the husband of the late Sally Coble Lynch and the son of George Thompson Lynch Sr. and Phoebe Stone Lynch, both deceased.Mr. Lynch was a member of the Mt. Zion Christian Church and a former member of the Haw River Christian Church and taught Sunday School there for many years, was a member of the Masonic Bula Lodge #409, Scottish Rite Valley of Greensboro and the Mebane American Legion. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the USS Marshall in the Pacific Theater.Surviving are his daughter, Phoebe Cole and husband Larry of Mebane; sons, Steve Lynch and wife Betsy of Burlington and Marshall Lynch and wife Michelle of Mebane; sisters, Marie Sikes of Greensboro and Jewell Lloyd Crawford of Hillsborough; four grandchildren, Annie Boone, Joel Jones and wife Heather, Crystal Haley, Terri McCormack; and two great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral and Cremation Service, 1308 S. Third Street, Mebane, Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. and at other times at the residence.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at the Mt. Zion Christian Church with the Rev.
