George Smith

It is with sadness that we advise of passing in Alamance County of our brother, George E. Smith, 87, of Mebane on August 17, 2026. George was a quiet man who enjoyed sitting on his wrap around porch watching and listening to his peaceful surroundings in the comfort of his home and the safety felt in his corner of the world.

George was sixth of nine children born to his late parents, Gilbert M. Smith, Sr. and Mattie Kirk Smith. He is survived by 3 sisters, Shirley A. Shambley (Morris), Annette S. Stone, Jeanette S. Rowland and late sister, Mary Alice Bradshaw, 1 brother, Gerald D. Smith, and late brothers, Gilbert M. Smith, Jr., Darwin L. Smith and Melvin Smith.

The family would like to express their gratitude, kindness and care to two special ladies, Patricia Riley and Barbara Jo Graves who provided their patience, comfort and laughter in the last months.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
