Gerald McGregor Mann, age 88, went home to be with the Lord following a very brief illness at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Friday, November 29, 2024. He resided at his younger son and daughter-in-law’s home in Haw River.
Gerald lived in Alamance County all of his life, with brief residences in Charlotte and Rocky Mount. He was one of four brothers who started and managed Mann’s Consumer Sales in Burlington and other cities in North Carolina and Virginia - which was established in the 1930’s as a sundries supplier to small, rural businesses in the Piedmont by their father, Coy. In his early 30’s, Gerald received the call to the pastorate and graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible College in 1974. He pastored at several churches from the 1970’s through the 90’s, retiring from the pastorate in the late 1990’s. Gerald worked at different companies in Burlington for ten years after that. He taught a Sunday School class at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church for many years after his retirement.
Gerald was born in Greensboro at Moses Cone Hospital on July 18, 1936 to the late Coy McKinley Mann and the late Pearl Cornelia Isley Mann. He married Peggy Joyce Pruitt Mann of Greensboro in November of 1961. They were married for 44 years, prior to her death in 2006. He is survived by his eldest son Greg (& Rebecca) of Prescott, Arizona - along with their daughters, Lindsay Anderson (& David) of Salt Lake City, Utah and Dayna Portillo (& Kevin) of San Diego, California - and also by his younger son, Philip (& Laurie) of Haw River and their daughter, Courtney of the home. He had one great granddaughter, Emma Anderson. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Clinton, and Bill, and sisters, Marie, Nell, and Margaret - along with his dear aunt, Elia Isley Moser. Gerald is survived by his sister, Sara Sizemore and his twin brother, Ferald, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service at the chapel. Interment, beside his dear wife, and a brief eulogy will occur at Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Gideons International @ gideons.org or AuthoraCare Hospice of Alamance County who provided care for his wife, Peggy, and additional family members.
