Glenda Mae Keck (Gerringer) Clampitt passed away peacefully at her home in West Columbia, SC following illnesses with emphysema and metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Snow Camp, NC on March 3, 1938 and passed on December 16, 2019. She was 81 years old. She is predeceased in death by her parents, James Edgar Keck and Ella Mae Zachary Keck, an infant daughter, Karen Lynette and by her husband, Austin “Whitey” Clampitt; sister, Mary Jones and brother-in-law, Vester Jones; brother Homer Keck and sister-in-law, Shirley Keck; sister Ruth Currie and brother-in-law Ralph Currie; brother, Bobby Keck and sister-in-law, Mary Ella Keck; nephew, Lee Jones; niece, Elwanda Jones; infant grandson, Marcus Daniel Hicks and son-in-law, Marc Hicks. Mrs. Clampitt is survived by daughters, Charesse Hicks of Irmo, SC and Amber Rushton(Mitch) of Salley, SC; sons, Everette “Sonny” Gerringer of W. Columbia, SC, Glen Gerringer of Gilbert, daughter-in-law, Peggy Gerringer; grandsons, Joseph B. Gause, Jr. of Columbia, SC and Zachary A.L. Gause of Irmo, SC.
Mrs. Clampitt is a graduate of Graham High School, Class of 1956. She worked for many years at Kayser Roth Hosiery Mill in Burlington, NC. She retired from Allied Chemical Corporation in 1986. Mrs. Clampitt enjoyed roller skating, dancing, sewing, creating beautiful living spaces, spending time at the beach, spending time poolside, and traveling. But mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her children and grandchildren more than life itself! Riding the golf cart and playing Rook with the children were favorite pastimes! Mrs. Clampitt was known for her independence and ability to “get the job done!”
Mrs. Clampitt will be sorely missed by her family and others who loved her dearly.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Durham. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
