H. Hugh Doss

H. Hugh Doss of Swepsonville, NC passed away at his home Friday, April 17, 2020 following a year of failing health.

Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Nancy, son Eric Doss of Greensboro and granddaughter Eve Doss also of Greensboro. Other survivors include brothers Jerry Doss (Sarah) of Haw River and John Doss (Nancy) of Chesterfield, VA, sister Ann Steele of Belmont, sister-in-law Beverly Doss of Mebane and many nieces and nephews.

Hugh graduated from Alexander Wilson school and attended Warren Wilson Presbyterian College. After service in the Army National Guard, Hugh was employed with Kayser-Roth Hosiery and later worked with Drapery Boutique and JD Wilkins.

Service to his Town of Swepsonville includes over 30 years as a member of the town council as well as holding the position of Mayor Pro Tem. In recognition of his service to the Town of Swepsonville, Hugh was awarded The Order of The Long Leaf Pine by Governor Roy Cooper.

Hugh was a former member of  both the Swepsonville and Graham Lions Club, Swepsonville Baptist Church and Graham First Baptist Church. After many years of being away, he and Nancy returned to his home church, Hawfields Presbyterian where he had served as a session member.

A kind and loving man, Hugh greatly enjoyed Doss family gatherings and Hawfields Presbyterian homecomings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard C. Doss and Lela Brooks Doss as well as brothers Thad Doss, Neal Doss and Virgil Doss.A private family graveside service will be held at Hawfields Presbyterian Cemetery.

Friends and family will be able to attend a viewing from 12:00 to 5:00 on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham.
