Harry Millard Roberts, a cherished pillar of the Prospect Hill community, passed away peacefully at his residence on September 29, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on August 19, 1936, in Orange County, Millard's life was marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a deep commitment to his community. Millard's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of Prospect Hill, where he graduated from Prospect Hill High School in 1955. His thirst for knowledge and self-improvement led him to further his education at Piedmont Community College. Millard's sense of duty called him to serve in the US Army in Germany from 1955 to 1957, followed by two years in the NC National Guard. His experiences abroad and at home instilled in him a profound sense of patriotism and community service. Upon returning to civilian life, Millard embarked on a lifelong career in agriculture, becoming a lifetime farmer in the Prospect Hill Community. His dedication to his work was evident in his 35-year tenure with the ASCS Office in Yanceyville, where he also served as a Disaster Officer for the State of NC. Millard's work ethic shone through in his role as a Ticket Marker on the tobacco market, a position he held for 35 years. Millard's commitment to community service was unwavering, as demonstrated by his role as a retired volunteer fireman with the Prospect Hill Fire Department from 1964 to 1986. His leadership skills were recognized by his peers, leading to his election as Past Master of Bingham Masonic Lodge No. 272 AF & AM in Mebane, NC. A man of faith, Millard was an active member of Crossroads Presbyterian Church and a former member of Mt. Adar Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and on various committees. Family was the cornerstone of Millard's life. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 67 years, Shirley Roberts, and a loving father to his daughter, Cheryl Hendrick (Chris), and sons, Karvie Roberts and Keith Roberts (Jennifer). Millard's joy was multiplied as he became a grandfather to Blake Shotwell (Chris), Macie Gamble (Keith), Samantha Roberts, Lexie Roberts, a great granddaughter, Maggie Shotwell and step great grandsons, Levi Shotwell and Holt Shotwell. His brother, Claiborne Roberts, also survives him, a testament to the strong family bonds that Millard valued so deeply. Millard's interests and hobbies were as rich and varied as his professional life. An avid sports fan, he coached Little League Baseball and basketball, and was an active participant in the Alamance-Caswell Senior Games. His love for sports extended to playing on several community softball teams. Millard's competitive spirit was showcased in his participation in three Senior Olympic Games, where he proudly medaled in each. Alongside Shirley, he enjoyed 18 years of traveling and playing in Senior Softball Tournaments, a shared passion that brought them closer together. Millard and Shirley's love for sports was further reflected in their unwavering support for their granddaughters' sporting events.
