ELON, N.C. - Mr. Haywood B. King, 86, of Elon-Ossipee Road, went to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Judy, on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, N.C.Haywood was born in Guilford County on July 11, 1927. He was one of seven children born to James Avent King and Margaret Pearl King, both now deceased. Haywood was married for 44 years to his loving wife, Judy, and is survived by his children, Rhonda Mahaley and husband Ray, Leona Willets and husband Mark; son, Melvin Harris; grandchildren, Nicolas Campbell and wife Kara, Ashley Tucker and husband Seth, Jason Mahaley and wife Courtney and Jordan Mahaley; great- grandchildren, Emery Tucker, Bryson Tucker, Anastyn Tucker, Finnely Tucker and Owen Campbell.He was associated with Alley, Williams, Carmen and King, a local architect and engineering firm in Burlington for approximately 30 years. After retiring from the military, he always said he thanked the Lord for allowing him to survive two conflicts and be able to serve for many years. Haywood served 35 years in the Navy, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer and a Seabee, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was Christian, believing in Jesus Christ and was associated with the Ossipee Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, in Alamance Memorial Park. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Marsh and Pastor Jason Wilkerson. Mr. King will remain at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham until taken to Alamance Memorial Park for the service.Friends may offer their respect at the funeral home from noon Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday. The family will be at Haywood's residence. A favorite passage of scripture of Haywood was, "God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son to allow all sins to be forgiven by accepting Him as our Savior. I accepted him as my Savior and look forward to meeting him and seeing my wife again." Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
